ARCH 546 M.TBVH STUDIO : FUTURE TIMBER CITY
The first of these studies will be the Future Timber City, located in an area that, like much of the world, is becoming hotter, drier, and desertified. The challenge is to design, as a collective studio, Phase I of an eventual megacity that will house one million inhabitants (initially) in the most viable way. The studio will last for two semesters. Semester one will create the vision for the city as a whole, with semester two focused on developing a cluster of buildings in detail. Two associated seminar courses will support the studio: (i) ARCH 570: Talking Tall will help set the intellectual framework, focusing on topics at a wide, social scale, and; (ii) ARCH 572: Tall Technologies will focus on technical aspects of cities and buildings in detail. As part of this latter course, external experts will work with you to develop a part of your studio design in technical detail, as the assessment vehicle for the course, and in enhancement of your studio project.
